The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918 takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Edward R. Wren, United States Army for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 167 th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division American Expeditionary Forces, near Hautmont France September 22, 1918.
After clearing the village of Haument, Lietenat Wren learned that a soldier of his comman was lying either killed or wounded in the town.
